Camping in Banff

Family enjoying beautiful hike in Banff

If you want to get just that little bit closer to nature, why not try camping in one of the many great campgrounds in the wonderful Banff National Park. Boasting fantastic scenery, varied wildlife and plenty of outdoor activities, the park is the perfect place for a great camping trip.

Increased investment in the park camping facilities means visitors have the choice of fully serviced sites, complete with hot water and flush toilets, as well as kitchen facilities and disabled access, to the more rugged pitches with basic amenities. Choose from 13 sites and a massive 2468 pitches across the park, where you can buy your camping permit and pitch up to enjoy the scenery.

To ensure that all visitors have a great time and respect the local environment, Banff National Park has introduced a few rules and regulations to keep things running smoothly. These include bans in certain sites on the consumption of alcohol after 11pm every day, as well as a ban on the possession of alcohol on certain weekends.

There's also the "Bare Campsite" scheme, which encourages visitors to clean up after themselves in a bid to reduce the risk of bears and other wildlife approaching the public areas. Noisy generators are banned throughout the day, with short usage permitted a few hours in the morning and evening, to ensure campers get to relax and enjoy the calm atmosphere of Banff National Park.

Remember, most of the sites are operated on a first come first served basis and do not take reservations, so be sure to get there early and remember that the summer season, which lasts from June to September, will be especially busy.
