A Romantic Escape To Banff

Romantic hotels

Banff consistently comes up when people talk about romantic locations in Canada. It’s an idyllic village nestled in the Rocky Mountains about two hours drive from Calgary. Banff National Park is one of Canada’s treasures, and the days spent breathing fresh air and taking in the majesty of the Rockies are sure to result in evenings filled with romance. Banff is home to some of the finest shopping, dining, and hotel experiences in the country, making it one of the best places to plan a romantic getaway.

First-class hotels in Banff include the Delta Banff Royal Canadian Lodge, located right in the heart of the village. The Delta features an extensive list of amenities, including the Grotto Pool and Spa, with Registered Massage Therapists available for a variety of relaxing therapies, and the on-site Evergreen Restaurant, serving contemporary Canadian cuisine. A “Rockies Romance Package” is available, including sparking white wine and truffles served on arrival.

The Banff Caribou Lodge, located on Banff Street (the “main drag” in the village) has rooms with a fireplace and Jacuzzi. This hotel features fantastic views, proximity to shopping and night life, a ski school (in season, of course) and a spa that includes a hot pool and steam room. The onsite restaurant is The Keg steak house.

For those looking for a little more “remote” romance, the Buffalo Mountain Lodge is nestled against the slope of Tunnel Mountain, close enough to Banff to walk in 15 minutes, but distant enough to give a sense of solitude. Every room is equipped with a balcony and a wood-burning fireplace, and there’s an outdoor Jacuzzi and a dry sauna. Two restaraunts are on site, serving Rocky Mountain and Italian Cuisine.

Of course, you can’t contemplate a romantic getaway in Banff without considering the famous Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. One of the crown jewels in the Fairmont chain, the Banff Springs is a National Historic Site of Canada. It was opened in 1888.

The building itself is a magnificent example of Scottish Baronial Architecture. A veritable castle, the hotel features 768 unique guest rooms, varying from small and cozy to downright cavernous. There are shops and restaurants (16!) on site. There are indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, and shuttles to local ski areas and Calgary International Airport. There’s an onsite ski school, bowling alley, tennis courts, trails for horseback riding, and a golf course.

Whether you choose one of these hotels, or another of Banff’s extensive selection of quality accommodations, you can’t help but feel the romance in the air around you when you and your favorite person step into what is perhaps the world’s prettiest village.
